Frequently Asked Questions
What makes FireLight™ different from traditional video streaming platforms?
FireLight™ isn’t a typical video platform. It’s specifically built to help users overcome bandwidth limitations and maintain real-time video transmission where bandwidth is scarce and network conditions are unpredictable.
Unlike conventional VMS or cloud-based systems that rely on high throughput, FireLight™ is a software-first, IP-based solution built to perform anywhere, from offshore rigs and UAVs to mobile command centres and remote sensors.
It streams live video from as little as 1 kbps, maintaining visibility even when networks become unstable or congested. This is achieved through Videosoft’s adaptive compression and intelligent stream management, which automatically adjusts video quality and bitrate based on available network performance to deliver the best quality video at any given bitrate.
Built on a modular, scalable architecture, FireLight™ adapts to evolving operational requirements, allowing users to expand coverage, add devices, or introduce new capabilities without disruption. The result is ultra-low latency, uninterrupted video, and constant situational awareness, all while significantly reducing data costs and extending operational endurance.
Can FireLight™ be deployed on compact or mobile edge systems such as UAV platforms or soldier-worn power units?
Yes. FireLight™ is built for flexibility and versatility, running efficiently on a wide range of compact, low-power hardware platforms, including Raspberry Pi (e.g., CM4), NVIDIA Jetson (Nano, Xavier NX, Orin Nano), X86-based embedded systems, and Glenair STAR-PAN™ NG soldier-worn power systems for reliable power and data connectivity.
Its lightweight, SWaP-optimised design makes it easy to integrate with existing and emerging platforms, from UAVs and soldier-worn systems to mobile or edge-based devices, wherever compact, power-efficient video capability is required.
FireLight™ has also been successfully embedded directly into third-party systems, such as camera modules, through partnerships with leading technology providers. This integration combines advanced onboard video processing with Videosoft’s ultra-low bandwidth streaming.
How easy is it to integrate FireLight™ into existing systems?
FireLight™ supports standard protocols such as ONVIF and RTSP, making integration with most IP-based video systems simple. It can be deployed as a full turnkey solution or as a component of a broader situational awareness ecosystem. FireLight™ seamlessly integrates with commonly used applications, including Video Management Systems (e.g., Milestone, Genetec), Command & Control platforms, GIS mapping tools, ISR systems, and ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit).
What video quality can FireLight™ achieve in low-bandwidth conditions?
FireLight™ can stream multiple full HD streams from a single device at up to 30 fps at multi Mbps. When the bandwidth on the network drops, Firelight™ dynamically adjusts video streams to match the conditions, compressing down to low resolution and low fps as little as 1 kbps. To compensate for these low-resolution images, our Total Recall™ feature allows you to select specific areas of an image and extract high-resolution pixels from those areas, providing critical image verification.
Does Videosoft support virtual machines and/or containerisation?
Yes. Videosoft supports both virtual machines and containerised deployments, providing Docker build files for rapid, streamlined setup across your preferred hardware or cloud environment.
A fully containerised solution offers significant advantages; containers are lightweight, portable, and highly efficient, enabling deployment on almost any device with minimal footprint. This approach supports scalable, multi-asset rollouts and simplifies ongoing updates, maintenance, and fault recovery.
What sectors or use cases is FireLight™ best suited for?
FireLight™ is built for all sectors where video must be simple, efficient, reliable, secure, and scalable. This includes defense, drones and aviation, energy (onshore and offshore), government agencies, police operations, maritime security, and industrial IoT.
