Honeywell Aerospace In-Flight Tests: Enhancing Flight Efficiency & Safety with Real-Time Video Streaming
From detecting design flaws to verifying aircraft capabilities, flight tests are essential for ensuring absolute safety and compliance whether in the air or on the ground. And as we travel towards fully integrated Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations worldwide, flight testing is key for maintaining communication and managing risks effectively.
In light of this, last month, our Business Development Director, Iain Janes, had the opportunity to participate in a unique flight test inside the Honeywell B757-200 demonstrator aircraft alongside our partners at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies and experience resilient BVLOS connectivity firsthand.
Resilient Airborne BVLOS Communications
Highlighting Honeywell’s cutting-edge military connectivity solutions and their integration into the digital battlespace, here’s a behind the scene look at the exceptional video quality and latency that can be achieved within a military operational framework.
Honeywell Aerospace & Videosoft: Redefining In-flight Satcom Connectivity Together
In partnership with Iridium, Viasat Aviation and Inmarsat, the Honeywell Aerospace modified B757 flying laboratory took off from Stansted Airport with Iain and partners onboard to showcase their next generation satcom systems in-flight within an operational context.
While airborne, the demonstration utilised two large screens positioned at the front of the aircraft. Honeywell conducted comprehensive performance tests on each network, demonstrating access to various Ka Band networks and seamless fail-over capabilities to Viasat L-Max and Iridium. Participants were invited to link their devices to these networks to gain an immersive experience.
Integrated with the Honeywell HSD-400, as evidenced in the video, our cutting-edge compression and transmission software maintained seamless real-time connectivity throughout the flight.
Appreciation to Paul Page and Wesley Cook from Honeywell and Louis Christodoulou from Viasat for making this unique opportunity possible.
Secure Connectivity for Every Mission, Encompassing Complex BVLOS Communications
Tried and tested by governments worldwide, BVLOS applications are continually being affected by network interference causing latency and throughput issues. As pioneers of ultra-low latency video streaming technology, Videosoft solutions have been engineered to address these challenges head-on and ensure continuous real-time video streaming to operations centres in any setting.
